Tim Perry is the Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at White Knoll High School in Lexington, South Carolina. He accepted this dual role following a highly successful tenure as the Assistant Baseball Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, and Pitching Coach at NCAA Division I Winthrop University (2024–2026). Perry brings over two decades of championship-level coaching experience across both the high school and collegiate ranks.

Recent Collegiate Success

Perry returned to the South Carolina high school ranks following back-to-back standout seasons managing the pitching staff for the Winthrop Eagles in Rock Hill, South Carolina:

2026 Season: Perry’s pitching staff ranked 76th nationally in ERA (5.09) and 2nd in the Big South Conference, engineering a massive turnaround from a 6.6 ERA in their first campaign. The unit also ranked 2nd across the Big South in Saves, Batting Average Against, WHIP, Runs allowed per game, and Walks allowed per game.
2025 Season: In his first full year at Winthrop, Perry's staff led the Big South Conference in shutouts (4), fewest walks allowed (221), and fewest walks per game (3.9). They also ranked 2nd in the conference in ERA, Strikeouts, and Saves.

Coastal Carolina & Recruiting Impact

Before his second stint in Rock Hill, Perry spent three seasons (2021–2024) at Coastal Carolina University as the Director of Player Development and Analytics under legendary head coach Gary Gilmore. During his three years at Coastal, one of his primary responsibilities was recruiting, where he served as a talented talent evaluator and "road warrior" on the trail. Perry played an instrumental role in recruiting elite talent that formed the core of the Chanticleers' historic 2025 National Runners-Up team. His notable recruits included:

Prior Collegiate Coaching

His extensive college resume includes 10 prior seasons coaching at the collegiate level:

UNC Asheville (2004–2009): Joined as an assistant coach and earned a promotion to Associate Head Coach in 2007. Perry recruited the class that won the program's first-ever Big South Conference Championship in 2006. In 2008, he coached Big South Pitcher of the Year Alan DeRatt (who led all of NCAA Division I in ERA for much of that season), 2008 Big South Tournament MVP Rob Vernon, and All-Big South pick Kevin Weidenbacher. In total at UNCA, he coached 2 conference players of the year, 1 pitcher of the year, 26 all-conference selections, and 17 all-conference tournament picks. Eighteen of his players went on to play professionally, including 12 pitchers.
Temple University (2011): Served as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Owls.
Lander University (2003) & Newberry College (2001–2002): Served as an assistant coach.
Winthrop University (2000): Began his career as a graduate assistant when the Eagles were the defending Big South Conference champions.

High School Head Coaching Legacy

From 2012 to 2021, Perry served as the Head Baseball Coach at Airport High School in West Columbia, South Carolina. Over 10 seasons, he compiled a 165–96–2 record, leading the Eagles to:

Moving dozens of his players into the college baseball ranks.

Playing Career & Personal

As a student-athlete, Perry enjoyed a standout baseball career as a four-year letterman pitcher at Newberry College (1995–1997). He led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts from 1995 to 1997, and posted the team's best ERA from 1995 to 1996. He finished his career making 36 starts, winning 16 games, and saving seven. Perry graduated from Newberry in 1997 with a degree in Physical Education.

Perry is married to Virginia Grace Shaw of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and has served on the board of the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.
